HELLENIC CRICKET FEDERATION
ORGANIZATION OF INTERNATIONAL CRICKET FESTIVAL
The Hellenic Cricket Federation's develpoment plans for the attraction of new foreign teams began in 2009. We were able to attract many new teams from England.
The HCF, with the support of the Corfu Prefecture and the Region of the Ionian Islands, took part in November 2009 at the annual WORLD TRAVEL MARKET in London having set a target of promoting the sport.
As well as our attendence at the exhibition, the HCF organized a gala at the historic ground of Lords with a theme of "The Ionian Inspires Cricket" at which journalists from large British tabloids who cover athletics attended.
The HCF set it's prerequisits for the organization of an International Cricket Festival which will bring exceptional advantages and common benefits for sports and tourism as well as the spread of the game in the Ionian Islands.
Attending the function was the Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mrs. Angela Gerekou, who's support was determinative for the success of the function. The Festival is an initiative for the exhibition and promotion of the game with the aim of creating cricket teams in the Ionian. The period in which the games will be organized are the months of May to June and September to October. The choice of months accomodates the lengthening of the tourist period.
As well as planning the Festival, the organization of the Rotary Cup has also been planned for June of 2010 where foreign cricket teams of Rotary groups will come to the island.
